Why People Struggle to See the Value in Christ — A Real Reflection
I’ve been sitting with this heavy, because it’s something a lot of people don’t like to talk about out loud. But it’s real. And honestly, it’s something I’ve questioned myself at times.
People want to see results.
People want to see evidence that God changed your life.
People want a testimony that looks like breakthrough, increase, promotion, elevation — all that.
And I get it.
Nobody wants to hear, “Yeah I got saved and I’m still struggling, still broke, still dealing with issues.”
Even though long-suffering is one of the fruits of the Spirit, nobody wants to hear about suffering. That’s just the truth.
People are already suffering in the world.
So when you tell them, “Come to Christ… but also understand there will be suffering,” it’s like:
“So you’re telling me I’m already suffering, and if I give my life to God I might keep suffering? Why would I sign up for that?”
And honestly? That’s a valid question.
People don’t want to suffer. I don’t want to suffer either. I don’t want to deal with half the things I deal with. But I also know this:
Suffering in Christ is not the same as suffering in the world.
In the world, your suffering has no covering, no purpose, no redemption attached to it.
In Christ, the suffering actually produces something. It builds you, strengthens you, transforms you, and sets you up for eternal reward.
But again… people struggle with that because they can’t see eternal reward.
They only see what’s happening right now.
And that’s the part that gets people stuck.
They’re looking at life like:
“I see my bills.”
“I see my pain.”
“I see what I’m going through.”
“I see what’s happening right in front of me.”
And eternal life?
They can’t visualize that. They can’t imagine that. They can’t touch that. So they don’t value it.
But here’s the real question nobody asks themselves:
“Yes, I’m alive today… but will I be alive tomorrow?”
And nobody likes to think about that.
Because if we were really honest, we would have to confront the fact that salvation is not about what you see today — it’s about where your soul ends up forever.
And that’s the disconnect.
People don’t value eternal life because they don’t understand what they’re losing.
If you’re already suffering in the world, what is the actual loss in giving Christ a chance? What are you really giving up? Because let’s be honest — the world has people suffering with no promise of anything changing.
But in Christ, even if life doesn’t get easier, you have a guaranteed promise:
Eternal life. Salvation. Protection. Purpose. Peace. Covering. A Father who sees you and cares about you.
Everything in this world is temporary.
Everything in His kingdom is eternal.
So the real issue isn’t that people don’t want God.
It’s that people don’t recognize the value of what they’re being offered — because what they’re going through right now feels louder, heavier, more “real” to them than the spiritual reward that they can’t fully see yet.
But I’ll say this:
The reward in heaven is far greater than anything you will ever gain on earth.
And yes — it’s hard to understand that when life is life-ing. It’s hard to process that when you’re dealing with poverty, pressure, pain, and all the real stuff we face day-to-day.
But still… the offer stands.
Christ is offering something the world cannot give you.
Peace the world cannot give you.
Life the world cannot give you.
And the fact that He died on the cross for you to have eternal life?
That will always hold more value than anything this temporary world can offer.
The real question becomes:
How do we help people see that?
How do we show the value of Christ to people who can only see what’s in front of them?
That’s the journey I’m reflecting on. And honestly… it’s something I’m still unpacking.
But the more I grow in Christ, the more I understand that salvation isn’t about escaping suffering — it’s about guaranteeing eternal life.
And that alone?
Is the greatest reward we could ever have.
